Karen L. Nyberg is an American mechanical engineer and a US Astronaut, currently living on the International Space Station. She is marred to Astronaut Douglas Hurly; they have one son. She is a graduate of the University of North Dakota, and holds a doctorate that was earned in connection with her work at the Austin Bio-Heat Transfer Laboratory.
In her career with NASA, Nyberg worked to improve the space suit thermal control systems. She also provided conceptual designs of the thermal control system for the Advanced Mars and Lunar Lander Mission Studies. She is the 50th woman in space.
